Relating your worldview to those in communities outside of the US.Explaining how differing historical and cultural factors or context shape’s people’s worldview.Explaining social, economic, cultural phenomena in a global context.This course meets General Education Curriculum Global Learning (GL) requirements of: Learn to think critically about your own social and cultural experiences, practices, and beliefs and to appreciate social and cultural identities, practices and beliefs different from your own.Express your own thoughts and experiences in constructive, intellectual dialogue that draw on and address scholarly research and theories.Learn about applying qualitative methods to solve business and organizational problems Articulate how this theoretical background and approach contributes to understanding organizational, social, and human issues in work settings.Use these concepts to explain cultural phenomena in a global context to understand how cultural context shapes people’s worldview.Develop an understanding of key concepts related to culture and anthropological thinking such as cultural relativism, ethnocentrism, emic and etic perspectives, holism, ethics in research, ethnography, and globalization.You will also learn about research and project design and apply ethnographic and other qualitative methods of data collection to solving business problems. We will discuss the plethora of career trajectories available to anthropologists in business and the diversity of topics that anthropologically-minded business people focus on in their everyday work including areas like product design, development, technology, finance, manufacturing, and entrepreneurship. In this course, you will explore the history of business anthropology and its theoretical background, organizational culture, and cross-cultural interaction. The theoretical perspectives of anthropology offer tools for developing cross-cultural understanding and insight into patterns of human behavior and social interaction that allow modern business and work environments to solve common problems in sustainable, ethical, and inclusive ways.
